My first best friend in the whole wide world had loose parents. They told me to stop knocking or ringing the bell, just walk in. My mother insisted I don't do this. She also didn't allow us to play in the forest behind his house. His mother would wink and say go explore! I'll cover for you! One time, when my mom came to get me she could hear his mom yelling out the back door to us in the forest. I was quizzed on how far we went and I remember saying sassily "past the old pines mom!" and she shrieked "not past the old pines!" and my friend and I both fell to the ground laughing hysterically at the reaction. I didn't get to see him much after that and then we moved. I wonder how he's doing.
